Created by the Center for Asian American Media, the CAAM Fellowship was launched in 2011 and revamped in 2019 to nurture next-generation Asian American documentary filmmakers. As part of their 2023 class, CAAM named Professor Suja Thomas as one of three Fellows. Thomas is working on her first feature documentary, drawing from her experiences as a lawyer and legal scholar, the film examines injustices in the system that often go overlooked. As a CAAM Fellow, Thomas will be paired with a mentor to help develop her project and introducing them to industry professionals from whom they gain invaluable insight; she will be working with mentor Jason DaSilva as part of the CAAM Fellowship.
