Professor Scott Szala's Illinois Constitutional Law and Policy class took its annual Springfield Field Trip recently. The class first heard an oral argument before the Illinois Supreme Court involving police body cameras. The class was recognized by the Court, and specifically, by Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis (first) and then by Justice Robert Carter '74. After the oral argument, Justice Lisa Holder White '93 met and talked with the students outside the courtroom.
The class then visited the Legislative Reference Bureau (the State agency that drafts legislative bills) and listened to a presentation by its Executive Director, James Stivers, who then answered several student questions. Next, the class had a tour of the Capitol and its class photograph taken. Finally, the class visited the Illinois Department of Revenue, and listened to a presentation by IDOR Director David Harris about financial and military issues involving the State.
