Professor Ralph Brubaker recently attended the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Law School’s Personal Insolvency Conference in Brisbane, Australia. The international conference focused on the “fresh start” offered by bankruptcy. Attendees represented a large number of countries around the world across a broad range of disciplines, including law, economics, ethics, and societal issues.
Professor Brubaker presented on the final day of the conference, where he validated the fresh start concept, not on the accepted rights or duties-based theories, but rather on the basis of “virtue,” a concept that serves to meet society's obligations to be charitable towards those less fortunate.
According to a press release issued by QUT Law, the conference was a great success. It provided attendees an intense and comprehensive examination of personal bankruptcy, and provided fresh perspectives and constructive ideas.
