Judge Jed S. Rakoff
, senior U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York, delivered the 2016 Paul M. Van Arsdell, Jr. Memorial Lecture on Litigation and the Legal Profession on September 27, 2016 at the University of Illinois College of Law.
His talk, "How Americans are Being Deprived of Meaningful Access to Their Own Courts," discussed how ordinary Americans never have their legal problems heard or decided by either a judge or a jury, the causes of this phenomenon, and the dangers it poses to the attainment of justice.
