Professor Matthew Finkin delivered a talk on "Faculty Freedom Today" at the annual meeting of the UIUC chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). He spoke about contemporary challenges to academic freedom from the right, outside the university, and from the left, inside the university, including the boycott of Israel, the reaction against the boycott, the controversy over academic departments’ political statements, and punishments for offensive speech in the classroom.
A leading scholar of academic freedom and labor law, Matthew W. Finkin is Swanlund Endowed Chair, Center for Advanced Study Professor, and Director of the Program in Comparative Labor and Employment Law & Policy.
