The University of Illinois College of Law this fall welcomed the JD Class of 2020, a talented, dedicated, and diverse group of 153 students.
In a year in which national law school application volume was essentially flat, the College of Law is pleased to report improved academic credentials and an increase in the size of our incoming class. This is the third year in a row that the incoming class’s overall median academic credentials moved upward, a notable accomplishment in what has been for most law schools a challenging admissions environment.
The Class of 2020 has a median undergraduate GPA of 3.61, an increase over last year’s incoming median of 3.59. In addition, the median LSAT score of 161 also increased from 160 last year.
As a group, the Class of 2020 boasts proficiency in 20 different languages/dialects. Students come from 23 different states and 5 different countries, and collectively attended approximately 75 different undergrad universities/colleges, and had 40 different majors.
"This year’s class brings an innovative spirit, a dedication to public service, and vast experience with sophisticated organizations. The Class of 2020 includes Teach For America and AmeriCorps alumni, and volunteers with organization such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Special Olympics, Relay for Life, and the Innocence Project. Members of the Class of 2020 have been either employed by or interned with organizations such as Walt Disney World, General Mills, Warner Brothers, Goldman Sachs, Motorola Solutions, and Abbott Laboratories, as well as CPAs for all four of the 'Big 4' Accounting firms," said Dean of Admissions Rebecca Ray.
