Professor Suja Thomas was quoted in a recent article in The Nation, regarding proposals by lawmakers in several states to ban confidentiality in workplace sexual harassment settlements. But advocates and lawyers are divided over whether that would benefit all victims.
"I think you could have some type of [confidentiality] agreement," said Thomas. "But I think you have to have the dollar amount that’s public, I think you have to have the nature of the claim that’s public, the company, and the harasser."
"If you don’t have the dollar amount, you don’t have the seriousness of the claim," she stressed. "The Weinstein numbers are just crazy."
