On January 27th, the Associated Press (AP) published a news story about the allegation that President Trump tried to fire special counsel Robert Mueller last June. Several questions were raised, and Professor Andy Leipold provided commentary about whether or not such a presidential order would be illegal.
"People say all sorts of things that they're going to do, and then they calm down and they think better of it and they get talked out of it," he said. "Some of this may just be no more than the president — as all presidents have done — racing their engines about things."
He concurred with another commentator that objectively, the fact that there was no firing means there was no obstruction.
