Anthony Kakooza ’14 (JSD) has been recruited by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to prepare an Action Plan for the Government of Uganda that will be used as a guide in preparing legislation for Traditional Knowledge (TK) and Cultural Expressions (TCEs).
WIPO officials became interested in Kakooza’s work last year, during a workshop on the subject in Uganda. During the workshop, Kakooza was asked by the Ugandan Government IP Office to make a presentation on the regulation of TK and TCEs.
Soon thereafter, in March of 2018, WIPO facilitated Kakooza’s trip to Ghana in which he shared his empirical research on TCEs and advised the Ghanaian government as they prepare to formulate regulations in the same area.
Kakooza was then offered a consultancy contract to prepare an Action plan on the regulation of TK and TCEs in Uganda.
