President Trump has nominated John Milhiser '97 to be the U.S. attorney for the 46-county Central District of Illinois. Milhiser is currently serving as Sangamon County State's Attorney, a position he has held since 2010.
Milhiser's legal career began in the state’s attorney’s office in 1997, after his graduation from the University of Illinois College of Law. He spent time in the juvenile, civil and felony divisions before entering private practice in 2003, and then returned to the state’s attorney’s office in 2008 as the first assistant.
According to the News-Gazette, both Illinois state senators, Democrats Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin, released a statement in support of Milhiser's nomination.
They wrote, "Mr. Milhiser has served the people of Sangamon County as State’s Attorney for nearly eight years, and we expect him to be a diligent, thoughtful, and principled U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois."
