Professor Travis McDade, an expert in law rare books, recently spoke to the New York Times about one of the largest rare book thefts in history. The theft allegedly involved a book dealer and a library archivist conspiring to steal and sell rare items from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
“That is absolutely unique,” said McDade of the collaboration between dealer and librarian. “You just don’t see it.”
“It was an amazing setup that was close to foolproof,” he went on, noting that most rare book thieves get caught trying to sell their goods.
