Professor Robin Fretwell Wilson was recently quoted by Deseret News in an article about underage marriage in the United States. Currently, in all but two states it is legal for a minor to be married and nearly half of those allow a minor of any age to be married.
Despite troubling data on minor marriages (high divorce rates, lower education rates, etc.), state lawmakers have struggled to legislate the issue.
"The great movement of the law has been to say that kids have more ability to make decisions not less," said Wilson, an expert in family law.
