Illinois Law dean and professor Vikram David Amar was a guest on a recent episode of Illinois Public Media's radio program The 21st. He discussed juvenile life sentencing, the legality of which is currently a question before the Illinois Supreme Court in the case People v. Buffer.
"Treating juveniles the same as adults may not give adequate weight between the differences between youths and adults," Amar explained, especially when you consider what is "cruel and unusual."
