Professor Robin Fretwell Wilson was recently quoted extensively in an opinion piece for the Des Moines Register, regarding the balance of religious freedom with LGBTQ rights. According to the article, Iowa may be the first state in the nation to roll back its own civil rights protections for the LGBTQ community, while at the same time it has been unable to pass any sort of legislation that protects the religious freedom of people of faith.
Wilson, an expert in family law and religious liberty, argues that each side of the issue has something to gain by cooperating.
"Think about it: Gay folks and (conservative) religious folks are making parallel claims on society … they’re both minorities on these issues and they want to be authentically themselves," she said.
