Professor Rob Kar, a member of the system-wide task force that developed the newly recommended campus sexual misconduct policy, has participated in several recent events related to the topic. Earlier in October, he participated in “Cultivating Bravery, Changing Culture: The Illinois Summit on Sexual Harassment", which provided administrators a forum to discuss issues unique to higher education and to equip administrators with tools to be culture change agents. On November 19, Kar was a panelist at Faculty Sexual Misconduct Reforms: A Way Forward, a public discussion hosted by Illinois Student Government, ProPublica, and NPR Illinois. The event was open to the general public but aimed to cater specifically to students, who say their voices have been largely left out of negotiations regarding potential reforms and solutions.
Professor Kar has also begun to consult with a number of Big Ten institutions and universities outside of Illinois on matters of sexual misconduct in higher education. He recently gave a talk on Reforming Approaches to Sexual Harassment in Higher Education at the University of Michigan, as part of the Big Ten Conference on Shared Governance.
