Professor Rob Kar has been appointed to several leadership positions at the University of Illinois in recent months. He was elected to the AAUP Policy Committee for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Chapter. He was elected to serve as an Urbana Representative to the University Senates Conference (USC); the USC coordinates Senate action by all three campuses for system-wide action and/or submissions to the Board of Trustees.He was also elected Chair of the Senate Executive Committee.

Kar has also been heavily involved in the work the campus has taken on regarding sexual harassment policy reforms. He was appointed to the task force that was charged with developing new system-wide policies, and he has also joined the Sexual Misconduct Appeals Panel at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In Campus Conversation, an interview with the News-Gazette, Chancellor Jones mentions Kar and his work on sexual harassment as critically important for campus reform.
