On April 25, 2022, Professor Jennifer Robbennolt delivered the 2022 Memorial Beecroft Lecture at UNLV. Her lecture, entitled "Civil Public Discourse: Some Lessons from Psychology," covered discussions of controversial policy issues and how partisan beliefs, individual understanding of facts, and personal perceptions of others can lead to contentious and unproductive debate, entrenched animosity, and the escalation of conflict. She traced the psychological roots of these patterns in her lecture and shared some of the lessons that psychology offers about fostering more constructive engagement across our individual differences.
