The plan to provide student debt relief to millions of borrowers proposed by the Biden administration faces significant challenges to becoming reality. In an article on HuffPost, Professor Robert Lawless shared his thoughts on those challenges and how he thinks the legal battle could play out.
“I think there’s a fair chance this is gonna get tied up in the courts,” he said. He added that successful challenges could also create a very confusing situation for borrowers. “Say you owe $8,000, so your student loan debt is entirely canceled. Then this gets tied up in the courts. Now what do you do?” If it gets overturned, it’s gonna be a mess.”
