Illinois has strong partnerships with several Chinese universities—many of which have spanned decades. In fact, in Fall 2023, China was the top sending country for international students.
A total of 5,554 Chinese students were enrolled at Illinois in Fall 2023, according to the most recent International Statistics report. The second country to send the most students was India, which sent 2,386 students.
Additionally, the university’s Shanghai Office, which opened in December 2013, is managed by GET director Dr. Matt Rosenstein.
The Shanghai Office operates as a natural extension of the Illinois-China partnership, serving students, faculty, staff, and alumni through outreach, protocol, and career activities.
