Service Saturday projects take place on Saturdays during the academic year and provide volunteer opportunities to give back to the local or regional communities. Through this program, the volunteers work with local residents and non-profit organizations to help meet the needs of the community. Volunteer opportunities provided through Service Saturdays are easy-access and, typically, one-time projects.
The projects are organized by either the Illini Union Office of Volunteer Programs, another campus group, or community organization, who plan, coordinate, and assist during the project.
Participants in Service Saturdays will:
- Recognize their own role as a member of a community
- Understand the value and impact of service on community or agency
- Demonstrate knowledge of community issues, needs, strengths and resources
- Enhance commitment to community engagement and service through involvement in the community
