Accessible Media Services (AMS) and the Testing Accommodation Center (TAC) within Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES) are currently looking for student workers for the fall with some summer employment is available as well.

Student Workers for Video Captioning in the Accessible Media Services (AMS) at DRES
Details
- Hours to cover are: 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday
- Hours are flexible
- Minimum of 10 hours per week
- Hours may fluctuate during finals
- Minimum wage - $8.25
- High security (Required to sign a confidentiality statement)
Responsibilities
Captioning
- Digitize and convert media
- Create transcripts of videos following rules laid out in the Captioning Key created by DCMP.
- Send mp3 files off to transcription service and download transcripts when they are received
- Use project management software to keep track of videos. This includes who gave AMS the video, copyright owner, time spent working on video, et cetera.
- Use CaptionMaker/MacCaption to create caption files and export caption files to correct format
- Use various programs to add caption file to media to create finished product
- Review captioned material created by other employees of the office
- Research captioning information about videos that will be used in a class here on campus
- Communicate with other employees as to the status of videos
Applicant Qualities

- Organized person who pays close attention to details
- Able to work with both Mac and PC
- Can work independently
- Must be able to sit and work keyboard and mouse for extended periods.
Requirements
- Must be a University of Illinois Student or have a Bachelor’s Degree
- If you already use the AMS services, you are not eligible to be employed due to conflict of interest.

Student Worker - Testing Accommodations Center (TAC) at DRES
Details
- Hours to cover are: 7:50am to 5:10pm Monday through Friday
- Hours are flexible based on your availability per week for whole semester
- Minimum of 5 hours work hours per week
- Hours fluctuate during finals
- During finals week, the hours covered are: 7:30am to 7:00pm Monday through Friday – at least 13 hours required
- Minimum wage - $9.00
- High security (Required to sign a confidentiality statement)
Responsibilities but not limited to
- Deliver materials all around the campus area
- Daily interaction with students with different disabilities registered with Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES) and the Center for Wounded Veterans in Higher Education (CWVHE)
- Proctor exams
- Set up exams and testing area
- Light filing and record keeping
- On an as-needed basis, serve as an exam reader and/or scribe (writer) for disability accommodation purposes with exam taking.
- Will be expected to multi-task and manage a fast-paced environment
- May be asked to help in other areas of DRES

Requirements
- Valid US driver's license
- Must be a University of Illinois Student who is enrolled for at least 6-hour credits
- If you qualify to utilize the TAC to take exams, you are not eligible to be employed due to conflict of interest.
