The online applications for School of Social Work scholarships are now officially open!
There are 6 BSW scholarships available this year. You may submit multiple applications. The deadline for scholarship applications is 5:00 p.m. (CST) on February 1, 2020. Application link to all BSW scholarships is below.

All of the listed scholarships are donor-funded, you can read helpful information about each one below or in the slides found here.
All scholarship amounts are approximate and subject to change based on a variety of factors.
You will be encouraged to attend the annual SSW scholarship ceremony which is to take place on April 4, 2020 at Alice Campbell Alumni Center. Most donors will be present at this event, and it is a great opportunity to share with them the impact their scholarship had on your educational experience.

Esther and Marvin Steinberg Memorial Scholarship
- This scholarship will be given to either a BSW or MSW student (but only one recipient). Preference given to a student who has experienced being homeless or has experience working with homelessness and hunger issues. Second preference given to a student who can demonstrate their plans to work with homeless populations after graduation.

Gary Shaffer Memorial BSW Scholarship
- This scholarship was established in memory of former faculty member Gary Shaffer. Awarded to a BSW student committed to social work. Preference may be given to students with an interest in school social work or public child welfare.

Jennifer Lynn Fry Memorial BSW Scholarship
- This scholarship was established in honor of Jennifer Lynn Fry, late sister of alumna Chelsea Fry (BSW ’15, MSW ’17). This scholarship shall be given to a BSW student who has a demonstrated commitment in working with people who are victims of sexual crimes by means of advocacy, leadership, experience, research, or career plans.

John K. Gibson Scholarship in Social Work
- This scholarship was established in honor of John K. Gibson by his loving wife, Nancy White-Gibson. The recipient of this scholarship must be a BSW student who has demonstrated commitment to any of the following: social justice, restorative justice, civil rights, and/or experience working with marginalized persons.

This scholarship requires at least one letter of support from a person familiar with your interests and experience, including faculty and staff of the School and social work professionals. Have the person email their letter directly to mamills@illinois.edu
Susan & Michael Haney Social Work Scholarship
- This scholarship is designated for a BSW student who will be in their junior or senior year in the Fall of 2020 who meets the following criteria: academic achievement, financial need, volunteer service, leadership, work history, and passion for social justice.

Yvonne Gilmore Scholarship in Social Work
- This scholarship is designated for a BSW student with demonstrated financial need and promotes diversity within the School of Social Work.
