  • Decoma Day Camp Summer Jobs

    We run a small, private day camp in one of the northern suburbs of Chicago and are looking for staff for the summer of 2020- group counselors and activity specialists. 

    Winter break is the perfect time to set up an interview.In addition we are going to be making an appearance at the U of I job fair held on April 2nd.  We will be hiring on the spot for any students looking for an AWESOME summer job. If you could pass this on to your sorority members we would be very appreciative!

    Decoma Day Camp is located in Northbrook, IL and we serve campers aged 3-13. We are a traditional day camp and offer every activity "under the sun".  We are currently looking for staff: group counselors and activity specialists.  If you are looking for a fun summer job look no further!   • HACU Accepting Applications for Leader-in-Residence Program, Undergraduate Students

    The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has announced applications are being accepted for the HACU Leader-in-Residence Program, a competitive program where students from HACU-member institutions across the U.S. and Puerto Rico receive leadership and career development training.

    Selected students will receive a scholarship to participate in the ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute,  the Student Track component of HACU’s 34th Annual Conference, October 31-November 2, 2020, at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort Lake Buena Vista, Fla. HACU Leader-in-Residence application deadline: June 26, 2020 Selected students are designated as a "HACU Leader-in-Residence" at their home institution. Benefits of the program include:

    HACU Conference Scholarship: ¡Adelante!     AUDITIONS FOR SPRING 2020

    Wednesday, December 4, 5 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 5 p.m.or by appointment during finals week

    Armory Free Theatre (Armory Room 160)(You will only need to come to one audition session.)

    Students can elect to receive 2 hours of course credit by enrolling in Theatre 400M.

    Come prepared with a 1-2 minute monologue. (It doesn’t need to be memorized.) Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in. Open to all university students. Though useful, no previous experience is required.

This requires a willingness to be open-minded and curious about social issues and justice on the part of all who participate in the project.Past topics have included hate crimes, sexual assault, body image, gender identity and transphobia, racism, socioeconomic status, and suicide. Join us for our 25th anniversary year!

  • Anthropology Open Lab Day

    Anthropology is hosting an Open Lab Day information session for students to learn more about two related labs - Biological Anthropology and Archaeology.

    The open lab day will be held on Thursday, December 5 from 3:00 pm-4:30pm. Meet in Davenport Hall 109A at 3pm. Professors Kate Clancy (Bio), John Polk (Bio), and Lisa Lucero (Archaeology) will present on each lab and answer any questions. 

  • Fulbright UK Summer Institutes - Information Session 12/6

    Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are fully funded opportunities for high-achieving freshman and sophomore students to explore a topic of interest in a multi-week summer program in the UK. Applicants must be US citizens.

    The 2020 summer institutes are not yet announced, but to get an idea the 2019 offerings included summer programs on climate change, the performing arts, social justice, education policy, international politics, post-conflict studies, media culture, global leadership, technology and innovation …and more!

    The National and International Scholarship Program will be hosting an information session for students to learn about the Fulbright UK Summer Institutes. The information session will take place in 1090 Lincoln Hall on Friday, December 6th from 3:00-4:00 pm.

  • Fall 2020/Spring 2021 Bailey Scholarship for Cause Driven Leaders

    FRED S. BAILEY SCHOLARSHIP FOR CAUSE DRIVEN LEADERS

    The Bailey Undergraduate awards are $3000 awards ($1500/semester) given each year to undergraduate students at the University of Illinois who have demonstrated positive impactand commitment as a result of service, community involvement, leadership, and action. Financial need and academic achievement will also be considered. University of Illinois - Urbana campus undergraduate students in all programs are eligible to apply.

    Summary of the project:

    Capturing and Understanding Emotions in Text

    Analyzing data to capture various emotions is very important for a wide number of applications, such as consumer engagement, experience in healthcare, advertising, etc. Also important is exposure to, or strong motivation to learn about emotions in text communication. This undergraduate opportunity will be part of a larger project in our lab that investigates new and better ways for people to interact with machines as well as with one another.

    The selected candidate will:

    -Not be expected to have previous experience
    -Work with a faculty mentor and/or graduate students with experience in Language and Emotion.
    -Annotate/code textual data to capture important affective information;
    -Learn about the challenges and opportunities of processing user-generated data (i.e., social media) and learn about the role of emotions in human-computer and human-human interaction.
