Position: Hourly Student – Hardware & Data Engineering
Salary: Commensurate with skills & experience

Primary Function and Responsibilities of Position: Continue work on developing radio telemetry capabilities for environmental data collection. Implement data conversion from hardware to radio transmission to backend encoding; create & tune driver for network parameters. Put incoming data from radios in a single table for future parse; Existing design utilizes ARM based (STM32) controllers with Digi Xbee radios for purpose of data receipt and transmission. Device will be implementing a variety of industry common sensor interfaces for communication with existing hardware (SDI-12, RS-232, SPI).
Required Qualifications: Student familiar with Python, embedded systems, C/C++, microcontrollers, data flow, PCB (printed circuit board) designs, radio communications including sub-Ghz frequencies & networking protocols. Completed CS/ECE 439 or equivalent. Have valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Digi Xbee Pro radios; experience with LoRa, familiarity with IOT backend architecture; familiarity with FCC federal regulations for radio communications; experience with low power hardware design.
Environmental Demands: Travel with supervisor (driving to and from research sites to install/test telemetry network and sensors, a few times)
