The Illinois River Biological Station is seeking two technicians to conduct applied research in aquatic ecology and large river systems and process riverine samples for aquatic macroinvertebrates. throughout the state of Illinois. This position will be 40 hours per week and will be based in Macomb, Illinois.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have or be in the process of working toward a bachelor’s degree in biology, Aquatic Ecology, Zoology, or related field. Position will require overnight travel may be required to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Will require working in adverse field conditions (heat, humidity, biting insects, etc.), travel (including driving to and from research sites) throughout the state of Illinois working irregular hours and overnights; lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
Preferred qualifications include Experience with laboratory sampling/processing protocols. Experience with safety protocols in relation to lab work and data collection and archiving of biological samples. Experience with the identification of aquatic macroinvertebrates. Experience with large boats, outboard motors, trailers, and four-wheel drive vehicles along with other fisheries, water quality, and related field equipment.
Salary: $16-$17 per hour, depending on experience
Available: Jan 15, 2025. The start date can be adjusted slightly depending on the candidate’s availability.
