The Illinois State Water Survey is seeking an hourly research assistant to maintain the Illinois Water Inventory Program (IWIP) Database and associated well records data by entering data, evaluating data quality, evaluating historical paper records for information and conducting interviews with data suppliers from high-capacity water systems in Illinois. Process and file incoming and historical water well information.
Job responsibilities include collection of state water use research data and enter into the IWIP database.
Contact facility operators to gather and correct reported water use data as well as ensure data quality.
Update files and record catalogues, reconcile missing and duplicate records, copy and scan paper records, and verify geographic locations from reported information under groundwater records staff guidance.
Keep abreast of development in this discipline.
Perform other duties as needed.
Requiring a bachelor’s degree in a physical science-related field. Alternate degree fields will be considered/accepted depending on the nature and depth of the experience as it relates to this position. Proficiency with Microsoft Access, ArcGIS. Past written and verbal communications experience; native English speaker. Ability to interact and ask questions of water professionals; ability to work independently and in a team environment; good organization and time management skills. Effective communication via telephone, email, and social media is necessary.
Preferring understanding of relational data structure. Familiarity with data collection activities. Knowledge of utility systems, industrial processes, and/or irrigation systems related to water use. Demonstrated aptitude for working with numeric data, scientific information, and geographic information systems.
