The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, a division of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, is seeking a “Graduate Academic Hourly” with a chemical engineering/chemistry background (recent graduate - completed Bachelor or Master) to work on a 1.5-year research project related to Plasma based CO2 capture and conversion.
Job Description:
Good hands-on laboratory skills are required, and additional research tasks are possible, depending on skill level, experience, and motivation. The candidates should have safety awareness for working in the above-mentioned environment. Recent Chemical Engineering/Chemistry graduates with a working knowledge of mass and energy balance, chemical reaction/process/conversion, plasma, mass-spectrometry, familiarity with laboratory procedures, and other analytical instrument operations are preferred. Knowledge of chemical process simulation, techno-economic analysis, scale-up, CFD simulation, software such as MATLAB, ASPEN, COMSOL, ANSYS will be plus qualifications.
The “Graduate Academic Hourly” must be available at least 25 hours per week throughout the duration of the project with some schedule flexibility. The initial salary for this position will be $20/hour, with a possibility of converting to a regular full-time research position based on the performance and availability of the follow-on funding.
