The Prairie Research Institute (PRI) is hiring a science storytelling intern to assist the communications team in sharing innovative research in archaeology, atmospheric science and climate, biodiversity and ecology, geology, hydrology and water, and sustainability. During this paid internship, you'll gain experience curating and sharing social media content from PRI’s high-impact research that benefits Illinois, the nation, and the world. Depending on the selected candidate’s interests and professional goals, the internship experience could include writing stories, creating illustrations and infographics, producing videos, or other forms of storytelling.
Candidates should submit a personal statement (of no more than 1 page) summarizing their goals for the internship and touching on relevant classes, internships, and work experiences. This internship requires a part-time commitment of 6 - 10 hours per week. Hours and locations are flexible. Supervisors will work around the intern’s school schedule, and interns may opt to work fully remote or a hybrid (remote + in-person) schedule.
Requirements: Must be enrolled as a graduate or undergraduate student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign At least one year of experience managing a social media presence.
Experience in multiple social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Understanding of the University of Illinois social media best practices
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred: Experience working with design software such as Canva or Photoshop; or a willingness to learn how to use these programs.
Experience managing a social media calendar
We encourage students working towards degrees in journalism, graphic design, communications, public relations, or any science discipline to apply.
