Job Description
The Illinois Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey (CAPS) Program is seeking a qualified and self - motivated individual to work as part of its invasive species monitoring team. Successful candidate will travel throughout Illinois, setting and monitoring insect pheromone traps, along with conducting visual surveys for plant pests as part of our Asian Defoliator Survey. This position will be based in Northeast Illinois.
Qualifications
Background in entomology, biology, natural resources, or horticulture is desired, but not required. Good verbal communication skills, ability and willingness to interact with public are essential. Candidate should be highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working with minimal supervision. A valid driver’s license is required. Travel regularly to trap sites statewide. Read and follow maps/GPS to trap sites. Work outside under sometimes difficult field and environmental conditions. Follow trapping protocols and maintain accurate, detailed records. Screen traps and handle insect samples.
Salary: Pay is competitive and starts at $14 per hour; depending on qualifications. Up to 40 hours per week.
Available: May 24, 2021 – September 30, 2021.
