Ecology Field Technician (Hourly)

JOB DESCRIPTION
INHS is seeking one field technician to assist with summer field sampling for bat acoustics, insects, and water samples for summer 2021. With the direction of staff scientists, technicians will be required to work independently to deploy bat acoustic recorders, set and retrieve insect light traps, and collect and ship water samples for processing. Additional duties including insect sorting and measurement may also be required. Overnight travel and long hours in the field should be expected. This position will be 40 hours per week and will be located in Champaign-Urbana.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be enrolled or have a degree in biology, environmental science, entomology, natural resources, or related field. Experience conducting fieldwork in an ecological-related field is preferred, with priority for experience sampling and identifying insects (to order) and/or deploying bat acoustic monitors or collecting water samples. Candidates who are able to supply proper camping equipment and who are comfortable camping are also preferred. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license. Must be able to use maps and navigation tools, must be able to problem-solve in the field.
Salary: $13-15 per hour, depending on experience
Available: May 17, 2021, to August 20, 2021
