ISGS is seeking to hire individuals for two USGS-funded projects focused on exploring the mineral resources in Upper Mississippi Valley-type lead-zinc deposits and mine wastes in northwestern Illinois. Work up to 20 hours per week at $15 to $17 per hour depending on qualifications. The position is based in Champaign, Illinois.
Duties and Responsibilities: Provide GIS support to project staff. Use and configure ESRI products, GPS units, various smart devices, and UAVs for field data collection, management, analysis, and visualization. Create maps using GIS software. Synthesize scientific and non-scientific data into maps and visuals for various reports, meetings, and presentations.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with advanced knowledge of GIS software functionalities and deficiencies. Experience with geospatial data acquisition, manipulation, creation, integration, and management. Experience with Lidar spatial analysis and modeling. Understanding of remote sensing techniques and sensors; image processing, storage, and distribution. Ability to work independently. Ability to prioritize, accomplish tasks, and meet deadlines. Ability to document processes and experimental results. Good communication skills to establish friendly, open, and clear communication with others. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in geography, GIS, environmental sciences, geology or related discipline. Two or more years’ experience with ArcGIS.
