GIS Technician (Hourly)

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking an hourly technician to assist with basic and applied research with an emphasis on GIS mapping with some opportunities for Fieldwork.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage data regarding transportation corridors, parcel ownership, and biological data.
- Delineate and enter geospatial data using GIS and visualization tools.
- Interpret historical data and parse out variables into GIS format.
- Participate in the organization of the group and its data related to biological samples.
- Work collaboratively with a large team.
- Learn about different biological sampling techniques in the field.
- Support field site logistics and participate in field sampling efforts.
- Use archived reports and interpret collected data to determine historical field collection events.
- Perform other duties to further the mission and goals of the Survey, PRI, and the University of Illinois.
- Keep abreast of developments in this discipline.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have or be working towards a bachelor's degree in geography, biology, or related field.
- Experience working with ESRI ArcGIS projects and ESRI ArcGIS Pro and associated databases.
- Experience managing data and field biology sampling protocols.
- Experience working with faculty, staff, outside organizations, and outside collaborators.
- Effective communication, personal relations, collaboration, organization, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to perform effectively in a diverse and fast-paced work environment.

Salary: $16-$20/hour, minimum of 10 hours per week and up to 40 hours per week.
Available: As soon as possible for summer employment with possible extension into the academic year.
