The deadline is approaching for Illinoisans to report their 2021 irrigation water sse to the Illinois State Water Survey’s Water Inventory Program. The deadline for individual reporting is Jan. 1, 2022, while aggregate reports are due by March 1, 2022.
Individual reports are expected from all operators except those in the Imperial Valley Water Authority and Russell-Allison Water Authority and in the following counties that report in the aggregate: Champaign-Ford-Vermilion, Crawford, Johnson-Massac-Pope-Alexander, Marshall-Putnam, Mercer, and White. Operators in aggregate reporting counties may submit an individual report directly to the state Water Survey by Jan. 1.
County Farm Bureaus and soil and water conservation districts that are compiling aggregated data must report by March 1, 2022.
Whether reporting individual or aggregated data, all irrigators must submit a well registration form. Individuals who are reporting as part of an aggregate submission still must provide a well registration form to the entity aggregating the data, along with their matching water use data and acreage for each. The Agricultural Irrigation Reporting Handbook offers instructions on how to complete the registration form.
An online reporting tool is available. When using the online tool, irrigators log into a personal account and have access to every annual report they have submitted, a graph showing their water use over time, and a map of their irrigation operation.
Those submitting individual reports may do so using email, postal services, or online. A well reporting form is available for individual reporters to submit their annual water use totals to the Water Inventory Program. Reports will be accepted for prior outstanding years as well. Those submitting aggregate reports should use the postal service or email them to ISWS-IWIP@isws.illinois.edu
