  • Addressing community gun violence

    As part of our commitment to transparency and giving you resources to keep yourself and others safe on campus, we would like to provide information about gun-related violence that has been occurring in off-campus areas of Champaign-Urbana during the first half of this calendar year.

  • Campus Safety Update

    As we noted, it was reported at 4:29 a.m. Wednesday that three men had entered a sorority house in the 100 block of East John Street, Champaign, and walked around the first floor of the building for a few minutes before leaving. The University of Illinois Police Department has identified two of the three individuals involved, and one has been arrested.

    It was reported that three men entered the sorority house and walked around the first floor the building for a few minutes before leaving. It is not known how they gained access to the house or whether any property was stolen.

  • Community Safety Notice

    A U. of I. student reported that she was followed by a man for several blocks as she walked home. The man then followed her up the stairs of her apartment complex before turning around and leaving the area as the student reached her apartment door.

  • Campus Safety Notice

    A teenage resident of the apartment complex reported that someone summoned him outside of his apartment via a social media message. When the teenager got outside, he was confronted by a man with a handgun. The teenager ran back inside and was not injured.

    A man approached a U. of I. student who was walking on the sidewalk, struck her in the back of the head, and attempted to take her backpack. The suspect ran when a passing vehicle stopped to help, and the robbery attempt was unsuccessful.

    It was reported that someone entered a sorority house without permission and took items from at least three separate rooms. Residents of the house were present at the time of the burglary. No one was physically injured.

    The University of Illinois Police Department has been informed that a student was sexually assaulted March 20 or March 21 at a fraternity house by a person known to the victim.

  • Campus Safety Notice

    A U. of I. student reported to the Champaign Police Department that he was walking through a parking lot adjacent to a fraternity house when three men exited a vehicle parked on the street nearby and assaulted the student.

  • Community Safety Notice

    At 12:08 a.m. Sunday, officers were alerted to an incident with multiple shots fired in the area of Second and Green streets, Champaign. Fortunately, police officers from multiple local agencies, including the Champaign Police Department and University of Illinois Police Department, were nearby and responded very quickly.
