  • Campus Safety Notice

    A U. of I. student reported to the Champaign Police Department that he was walking through a parking lot adjacent to a fraternity house when three men exited a vehicle parked on the street nearby and assaulted the student.

    At 12:08 a.m. Sunday, officers were alerted to an incident with multiple shots fired in the area of Second and Green streets, Champaign. Fortunately, police officers from multiple local agencies, including the Champaign Police Department and University of Illinois Police Department, were nearby and responded very quickly.

    A U. of I. student was walking from her car in parking lot D-6 toward Burrill Hall. A man followed her, asked her for the time, and grabbed the student’s car keys from her hand. Security cameras captured images of both the offender and the stolen vehicle.

    A U. of I. student was sitting outside of the building under the northeast awning where he was approached by one person who demanded money. No weapon was displayed during the robbery attempt, but the offender grabbed the student by the arm and threatened to shoot him. The student called 911, and the offender ran away.

    Within the past three weeks, three vehicles have been reported stolen from the area of Green and Sixth streets, Champaign. In at least one of the incidents, the vehicle was left running and unattended.

    A U. of I. student was approached by four men who pushed the student to the ground and took the student’s cash and other property. The group then ran to the north. No one appeared to have a weapon. The student was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    The University of Illinois Police Department was informed by a Campus Security Authority that a student was sexually assaulted at 12:20 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, at a fraternity house by a person known to the victim.
