A U. of I. student reported that his bicycle had been stolen between Friday and Sunday from Scott Hall, 202 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $380, was locked to a rack.
At 12:42 p.m. April 2 at the U. of I. Public Safety Building, 1110 W. Springfield Ave., Urbana, Ivan Castro, 32, of Champaign, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for forgery. While working in 2019 as the manager of a restaurant in the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana, Castro is alleged to have falsified other employees’ time sheets in order to obtain paychecks from the restaurant’s corporate owner for hours not worked. Castro allegedly endorsed and cashed the checks himself so he could pay cash to other restaurant workers who were not on the payroll. Police initially were called by a former employee who received a W-2 listing income he never received.
