At 7:32 p.m. May 10 near the corner of First and John streets, Champaign, an off-duty U. of I. police officer walking in the vicinity witnessed a road rage incident. When a vehicle occupant got out and walked aggressively toward a second vehicle, the officer intervened and told the passenger to return to their vehicle. The passenger then lunged at the officer with a switchblade knife. The officer pulled up his shirt to reveal his badge and off-duty weapon in its holster. The suspect returned to the SUV, which sped away. Police continue to investigate.
Between 11 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Monday, a lawn chair valued at $40 was stolen from the University YMCA, 1001 S. Wright St., Champaign.
