U. of I. student Daniel Meyka, 19, of Urbana, was arrested at 9:10 a.m. Thursday at his residence hall room in Saunders Hall, 902 W. College Court, Urbana, for possession of child pornography. Police received information that someone had uploaded sexually explicit images involving minors through a social media messaging app. Police obtained a search warrant for Meyka’s room after identifying him as the user who did so. When officers arrived to serve the search warrant, Meyka admitted that he had uploaded the images.
At 1:14 p.m. Dec. 2 at the St. Clair County Jail, 700 N. 5th St., Belleville, Illinois, Jared M. Rupert, 41, of Champaign, was issued two state of Illinois notices to appear in court for theft and burglary. Rupert was identified as the offender in two incidents at the I Hotel and Conference Center, 1900 S. First St., Champaign. On Aug. 28, a hotel employee reported seeing a man take a set of staff keys from behind a desk. On Aug. 30, a hotel employee reported that someone had stolen cash from a drawer behind a counter. Security camera images from both incidents helped police identify Rupert, who is currently in custody at the St. Clair County Jail on unrelated charges.
U. of I. student Adrian Knyazev, 18, of Urbana, was arrested at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at his residence hall room at Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory Drive, Urbana, for possession of cannabis over 100 grams and delivery of cannabis on school grounds. On Dec. 2, police visited Knyazev at his room after receiving a tip about suspected drug activity. Upon speaking with officers, Knyazev admitted to selling cannabis and turned over about 152 grams to police.
Brandon K. Humble, 30, of Urbana, was arrested at 2:36 a.m. Thursday near Wright and Hill streets, Urbana, for driving under the influence of alcohol. Humble’s vehicle initially was stopped because it was drifting in and out of the lane and hit a curb.
