An employee of a restaurant in the Illini Union food court, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana, reported that someone had entered the restaurant through an unlocked door between 5:30-6 a.m. Monday and stole a cash register drawer.
A U. of I. student reported that a package had been stolen Oct. 7 from the lobby of his apartment building at 700 S. Gregory St., Urbana. The package has an estimated value of $420.
A U. of I. student reported that his bicycle had been stolen Monday or Tuesday from Van Doren Hall, 1215 S. Fourth St., Champaign. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $600, was locked to a rack.
A U. of I. student reported that he had been defrauded of $3,500 Monday. The student received a call from someone purporting to be a law enforcement officer from Chicago who had a warrant for the student’s arrest related to a drug investigation. To resolve the warrant, the student was instructed to wire $2,500 to an unknown person via Bitcoin and also purchase $1,000 in gift cards to a retail store and read the card information over the phone. The student complied with the instructions.
