At 3:33 p.m. Wednesday at the Ashton Woods apartment complex in the 2200 block of South First Street, Champaign, it was reported that a teenage boy was summoned outside of his residence by someone who messaged him through social media. When the boy got outside, he was confronted by another person who was reportedly armed with a handgun. The boy ran back inside and was not injured.
A U. of I. student reported that someone had stolen a number of items from his unlocked vehicle between 9-10 a.m. Saturday outside of Japan House, 2000 S. Lincoln Ave., Urbana. The stolen property includes electronics, clothing, cash and banking cards with a total estimated value of $940. The banking cards were later used at several stores and restaurants in Champaign.
At 1:12 a.m. Saturday near Third and Green streets, Champaign, Devyon D. Coleman, 20, of Champaign, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for criminal damage to property. Police initially were approached by staff from a nearby bar who reported that they saw Coleman kick a parked vehicle as he left the bar. The kick caused damage with an estimated repair cost of $1,000.
A U. of I. employee reported that cash had been stolen from her office between 2-3 p.m. Thursday at the National Soybean Research Center, 1101 W. Peabody Drive, Urbana. The office was unattended and unlocked at the time of the theft.
