A hit-and-run accident was reported Sept. 28 at St. Mary’s Road and South Lincoln Avenue, Urbana. A man said that a dump truck backed into his vehicle. The motorists had a brief verbal argument, and then the driver of the dump truck drove away. An estimated cost to repair the vehicle was not available.
At 11:15 p.m. Friday at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, 1400 W. Park Ave., Urbana, Tommy R. McConkey, 54, of Champaign, was issued state of Illinois notices to appear in court for illegal possession of hypodermic syringes and possession of a controlled substance. Police initially were called to the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana, because McConkey was having a medical emergency. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Police found him in possession of the syringes and heroin.
A U. of I. employee reported that someone had stolen banking cards, gift cards and identification from her vehicle between 5:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday while it was parked at U. of I. parking lot E-14, 1801 S. First St., Champaign. After the theft, the cards were used without permission at locations in Champaign. The total value lost is $3,543.87.
A woman reported that a tablet computer had been stolen from her vehicle between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday while it was parked at U. of I. parking lot E-14, 1801 S. First St., Champaign. The tablet computer has an estimated value of $525.
Yliana F. Rodriguez, 29, of Sullivan, Illinois, was arrested at 1:41 a.m. Monday near Sixth and Green streets, Champaign, on multiple Moultrie County, Illinois, warrants for failure to appear in court. Rodriguez was the passenger in a vehicle that was initially approached by an officer because it was parked in a no-parking zone.
Leslie Montenegro, 21, of Savoy, Illinois, was arrested at 4:10 a.m. Saturday near Kirby Avenue and Valley Road, Champaign, for criminal damage to property related to a domestic incident and on a Ford County, Illinois, warrant for failure to appear in court. In a related incident at the same time, Isiah P. Wright, 23, of Savoy, Illinois, was arrested in the 1500 block of South Neil Street, Champaign, for domestic battery. Montenegro’s vehicle initially was stopped for speeding and following Wright’s vehicle too closely. While that was happening, Wright approached a police officer to report an accident. Upon speaking with both people, officers learned that Montenegro and Wright had been involved in a physical altercation that resulted in Montenegro receiving injuries and provoked her to chase Wright’s vehicle. At one point during the chase, Montenegro’s vehicle struck Wright’s vehicle.
Edward F. Bennett, 26, of Urbana, was arrested at 2:12 p.m. Saturday near First Street and Kirby Avenue, Champaign, for theft, obstructing identification and on a McLean County, Illinois, warrant for failure to appear in court. Bennett initially was stopped by an officer who recognized him and was aware that he was the suspect in a theft that occurred Thursday at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Goodwin Ave., Urbana. When the officer asked for his identification, Bennett presented a stolen driver’s license.
