Ahmed S. Damoony, 31, of Worth, Illinois, was arrested at 4:17 a.m. at a business in the 500 block of East Green Street, Champaign, on a Champaign County warrant for failure to appear in court. Damoony initially called police to complain of loud noise in the building above his business.
A bicycle was reported stolen around midnight Saturday in the 500 block of South Third Street, Champaign. A man reported that he set the bicycle down in a park, and it was gone when he returned a moment later. The bicycle has an estimated value of $1,500.
U. of I. student Huang Xiaoci, 20, of Champaign, was arrested at 10:22 p.m. Saturday for domestic battery and sexual assault. Police initially were called by a witness who heard an argument. When police arrived, Xiaoci physically prevented a woman from leaving his apartment in front of officers. The woman then reported that Xiaoci had struck her and had nonconsensual sexual contact with her three times in the past week.
At 5:29 p.m. Friday near Green and New streets, Champaign, Reece W. Niccum, 23, of Urbana, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for illegal possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle. Reece’s vehicle initially was stopped because he was not wearing a seatbelt. Officers searched the vehicle after noticing open cans of alcohol. They found cannabis stored improperly.
A U. of I. employee reported that a university-owned laptop computer had been stolen between 10 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Thursday at Campbell Hall, 300 N. Goodwin Ave., Urbana. The computer was one of five delivered at the same time. When the employee went to retrieve the deliveries, he found one of the boxes had been cut open and the computer was missing. It has an estimated value of $1,400.
