At 7:52 p.m. Thursday, an employee of a private business at the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana, reported that someone had removed a bottled beverage from a retail display case, drank from it and then left without paying. Police identified and spoke with the offender outside the Illini Union. She previously had been issued a no-trespassing notice for all U. of I. property. Because of her mental condition, officers had her speak with a University Police social worker in lieu of arrest.
At 6:20 p.m. Thursday at the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana, Xavier C. Gourdine, 24, no address provided, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for trespassing on state-supported property. Police initially were called by an Illini Union staff member who recognized Gourdine and was aware that he previously had been issued a no-trespassing notice for all U. of I. property.
A U. of I. employee reported that a headlight with an estimated value of $50 had been stolen from her bicycle between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday outside Roger Adams Laboratory, 600 S. Mathews Ave., Urbana.
Gerald B. Jackson, 26, of Urbana, was arrested at 3:10 a.m. Friday near Wright and Green streets, Champaign, for possession of a controlled substance and illegal possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle. Jackson was the passenger in a vehicle that initially was stopped for driving at night without headlights. Police searched the occupants after smelling an odor of cannabis in the vehicle. Officers found cannabis and amphetamine pills in a satchel strapped across Jackson’s chest. Jackson did not have a prescription for the pills. Police issued the driver a warning for driving without headlights and a citation for operating an uninsured vehicle.
