A U. of I. student reported that he was the victim of a battery Saturday on the Bardeen Quad behind Engineering Hall, 1308 W. Green St., Urbana. The student reported that he was sitting near Boneyard Creek when he was approached by an unknown person who threatened to throw him in the water. The offender shoved the student and blocked his path as the student tried to walk away. The student successfully moved past the offender and left the area.
Gertrude Tshinguta, 45, no address provided, was arrested at 9:51 a.m. Wednesday near Wright and Healey streets, Urbana, for aggravated battery. Police initially were called by a Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District bus driver who reported that Tshinguta had struck the driver in the shoulder during an argument.
The catalytic converter was stolen from a U. of I. student’s vehicle around 2 a.m. Wednesday while it was parked at the Ashton Woods apartments, 2221 S. First St., Champaign. Police were called by a witness who reported seeing two men jack up the vehicle and use a power tool underneath the car. The estimated cost to repair the vehicle is $1,500.
