A U. of I. student reported that the rear window of his vehicle had been broken Saturday or Sunday while it was parked at U. of I. parking garage C-6, 402 E. Daniel St., Champaign. The estimated cost to replace the window is $450.
On Sunday, a U. of I. student reported that someone had filed a fraudulent tax return in his name. The student is working with the Internal Revenue Service to resolve the identity theft.
A 5:18 a.m. Friday, police were called to assist the Urbana Fire Department at Saunders Hall, 902 College Court, Urbana. Someone had lit a small fire on a tabletop in the residence hall lobby.
At 11:49 a.m. Friday at Illinois Terminal, 45 E. University Ave., Champaign, Brandon A. Shaw, 26, no address provided, was arrested for theft of lost or mislaid property. On Thursday, a U. of I. student reported that she had mistakenly left her $1,000 cellphone at the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana. The student later called her phone, and it was answered by a witness who identified Shaw as the person who had taken it from the Illini Union.
At 1:01 a.m. Saturday near Third and Green streets, Champaign, Caleb M. Trimble, 20, of Danville, Illinois, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for aggravated battery. Trimble reportedly struck a bar security employee in the face while being removed from the business after pushing a female patron.
U. of I. student Silvestre G. Guerrero, 21, of Champaign, was arrested at 10:59 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of East Green Street, Champaign, for illegal possession of cannabis, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance lookalike and for using an electronic communication device while driving. Guerrero initially was stopped because an officer saw him using a cellphone while driving. Officers searched the vehicle after smelling an odor of cannabis and found improperly stored cannabis, an MDMA pill and three pills with markings indicating that they were Adderall.
At 2:01 a.m. Saturday near Third and Green streets, Champaign, Kynzee N. Boastick, 20, of Urbana, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for battery. Police initially were called by bar staff who reported that Boastick had knocked another bar patron to the floor and struck the patron multiple times.
