At 12:55 a.m. Thursday near University Avenue and Neil Street, Champaign, Wesley L.B. King, 30, of Champaign, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court related to a Champaign County warrant for failure to appear in court. King’s vehicle initially was stopped for speeding.
A U. of I. student reported that he was the victim of extortion Wednesday morning. The student exchanged private social media messages with an unknown person, who eventually requested that the student send a lewd photo of himself. Upon receiving the photo, the unknown person threatened to send the photo to the student’s social media followers unless the student paid money to the unknown offender. The student ended the communication and reported the incident to police. No money was exchanged.
A U. of I. student reported that his laptop computer, cellphone, reading glasses and textbooks had been stolen between 9:43 p.m. Monday and 5:30 a.m. Tuesday from Clark Hall, 1203 S. Fourth St., Champaign. The student was studying in a lobby area of the building and mistakenly did not take his belongings with him when he left the area. The items, which have a total estimated value of $1,726, were missing when he returned to retrieve them.
