At 4:45 p.m. Tuesday near Race Street and Curtis Road, Urbana, Amanda L. Cooley, 34, and Karen L. Cooley, 56, both of Ivesdale, Illinois, were issued state of Illinois notices to appear in court for theft from government property. Police were called by a witness who saw the two women load a vehicle with pumpkins they had taken from a U. of I. research field. The pumpkins have an estimated value of $175.
Corleone D. Lewis, 23, of Chicago, was arrested at 12:42 p.m. Tuesday near Lincoln Avenue and Ohio Street, Urbana, for domestic battery and interfering with a report of domestic battery. Police initially were called by a witness who saw Lewis assault another person in the 2000 block of South Lincoln Avenue, Urbana. The witness also reported that Lewis prevented that person from calling for help. An officer stopped Lewis’ vehicle as he was driving away from the area.
At 6:07 p.m. Tuesday near Stadium Drive and Oak Street, Champaign, James I. Carter, 20, of Champaign, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for theft. A resident in the area called police after seeing Carter take packages from porches along First Street. An officer stopped Carter, who was walking away from the area while carrying the stolen items. The total value of the stolen property is estimated to be $85, and the items were returned to their owners.
