Police recovered a stolen vehicle at 1:27 a.m. Sunday near Fourth and John streets, Champaign. Officers initially stopped the vehicle after a license plate check indicated that it had been reported stolen. The driver and three passengers were released at the scene without charges pending further investigation, and the car was seized. It has an estimated value of $42,990.
of I. student Mounes B. Awawdeh, 21, of Champaign, was arrested at 12:01 a.m. Sunday at an apartment in the 500 block of South Third Street, Champaign, for aggravated battery, trespassing to a residence and unlawful restraint. Another U. of I. student called police after Awawdeh reportedly entered her apartment without permission. A male guest at the apartment confronted Awawdeh and moved him into the hallway, where Awawdeh put the guest in a headlock. Awawadeh continued pounding on the apartment door after he had been locked out. No injuries requiring medical assistance were reported.
A U. of I. student reported that his bicycle had been stolen April 22 from Illinois Street Residence Halls, 1010 W. Illinois St., Urbana. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $300, was locked to a rack.
A U. of I. student reported that his clothing had been stolen between 7:15-11 p.m. April 21 from the laundry room at Van Doren Hall, 1215 S. Fourth St., Champaign. The clothing items, which have a total estimated value of $60, were left unattended in a washing machine.
A U. of I. employee reported that two personal credit cards and a university credit card had been stolen from her purse Tuesday at University Laboratory High School, 1212 W. Springfield Ave., Urbana. The purse was left unattended in a cabinet in an unlocked classroom. Multiple fraudulent charges totaling more than $700 were posted to the cards during the time that they were not in the employee’s possession.
