At 8:50 a.m. Thursday on a Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District bus in the 1400 block of West Gregory Drive, Urbana, Frank L. Wesley, 44, no address provided, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for trespassing. Police were called by an MTD supervisor who had been notified that Wesley had boarded a bus after previously being issued a no-trespassing notice for all MTD buses.
At 7:17 a.m. Wednesday, it was reported that demonstrators were blocking employee access to Swanlund Administration Building, 601 E. John St., Champaign. Police told the demonstrators that they could continue with the demonstration but that it is unlawful to impede anyone’s movement. Upon speaking with witnesses, police learned that the demonstrators had made physical contact with at least two U. of I. employees who attempted to enter the building. Officers also were approached by a U. of I. employee who reported that noise from the demonstration was disrupting services at the Counseling Center, 610 E. John St., Champaign. The incidents involving physical contact remain under investigation.
At 12:41 p.m. Wednesday at the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, U. of I. student Al-Ameen O. Seriki, 18, of Urbana, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for retail theft. Police were called by a store security employee who reported that he saw Seriki attempt to leave the store without paying for two jackets with a total retail value of $210.
