A U. of I. student reported that cash had been stolen from his residence hall room at Sherman Hall, 909 S. Fifth St., Champaign. The student said he first noticed the cash missing from his backpack around Aug. 31. He did not report the theft until he noticed Friday that additional cash had been stolen from his backpack. The student’s roommate stated that his cash also had been stolen within the last few weeks. The students keep their room locked.
A U. of I. student reported that the catalytic converter had been stolen from his vehicle between Aug. 29 and Saturday while it was parked at U. of I. parking lot E-14, 1702 S. First St., Champaign. An estimated cost to replace the auto part was not available at the time of the report.
A U. of I. student reported that his bicycle had been stolen overnight Thursday or Friday from Loomis Laboratory, 1110 W. Green St., Urbana. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $200, was locked to a rack.
A U. of I. student reported that she had been the victim of a scam resulting in the loss of about $2,500. The student received a message from an unknown person who offered to pay money in exchange for conversation. After exchanging text messages, the unknown person sent a $4,500 check to the student, who was directed to deposit the check and return some of the money to the sender. The student complied and later learned that the original check had bounced.
Wilisha C.S. Anderson, 35, of Champaign, was arrested at 2:26 a.m. Friday near Goodwin and University avenues, Urbana, for driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol and disobeying a traffic control device. Police initially stopped Anderson’s vehicle because she disobeyed a red light.
