A U. of I. student reported that she had witnessed lewd and concerning behavior at 9:34 p.m. Tuesday outside of her Orchard Downs apartment in the 1900 block of South Orchard Street, Urbana. An unknown person approached the student’s bedroom window and pressed a mobile device playing a pornographic video against the glass.
At 5:01 p.m. Tuesday at the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, U. of I. student Nicolas Campuzano, 22, of Champaign, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for retail theft. A store security employee called police after seeing Campuzano attempt to leave the store without paying for two water bottles with a total retail value of $53.16.
Austin D. Ashenfelter, 23, of Champaign, was arrested at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 4200 block of West Springfield Avenue, Champaign, for criminal damage to state-supported property. Ashenfelter initially was stopped by a separate police agency as the result of an investigation into a motor vehicle theft. Ashenfelter told police that he had driven on the University of Illinois Golf Course, 800 Hartwell Drive, Savoy, Illinois, which caused significant damage to the playing surface. A preliminary estimate to repair the grass is $1,000.
